The country’s most scenic must-see natural wonder is undoubtedly the UNESCO heritage-listed Plitvice Lakes National Park. To properly explore the upper and lower levels takes two days. It’s a series of 16 interconnected lakes (largest Lake Kozjak), featuring a multitude of dams, waterfalls, cascades, and at least 30 hidden caves. Home to bears, wolves, foxes, otters, rabbits, and rare birds, the nearest cities are Zadar and Zagreb.
