Egypt is an ancient country of natural beauty and thousands of years of recorded history. From its vast deserts and the mighty Nile river to culturally-rich cities and the famed pyramids, there truly is no shortage of essential Egyptian experiences.
So how many days do you need in Egypt? It’s certainly possible to see many of the major attractions in one week if you plan for packed days and early mornings. Shorter trips can be great if time is a factor, but you’ll have to prioritise your experiences.
Our 16 day Egypt group tours make for a more comprehensive itinerary, allowing greater freedom to explore major sites, including museums, temples, historic cities and the Great Pyramids. With so much to see and do, it’s worth giving yourself enough time to take it all in.

As with all travel, how much you spend will depend entirely on how you like to travel. Backpackers and budget travellers can expect to pay less than luxury travellers, which can also mean different experiences.
When calculating a budget, factor in costs such as flights, accommodation, meals, transport and sightseeing. Expect an Egyptian trip to cost in the range of $200-400 per day on average, including flights. Luxury travellers should prepare for a minimum of around $320 per day, though this could be much higher depending on where you stay and what you do.

Travelling in any country comes with its own risks, and Egypt is no different. When considering the safety of travel, it’s always best to do your homework and stay up to date. Travel advisories like smartraveller.gov.au are good places to start.
Feeling the wanderlust but asking yourself, ‘is Egypt safe?’ Consider a guided group tour. Our tours offer the benefits of small groups, informed local guides and years of global travel experience. For solo travellers in particular, joining a group tour can be a perfect way to see a country safely.

Exploring the pyramids is one of the greatest reasons to travel to Egypt. The majesty of these ancient wonders, built as tombs for the Pharaohs, draws tourists from all corners of the globe to venture to the Giza plateau and beyond.
Though they no longer contain the riches of ancient times (you’ll want to visit the Egyptian Museum in Cairo for that), you can certainly enter the pyramids. There are three pyramids to explore at Giza - the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre and the Pyramid of Menkaure. Visitors need to buy a ticket to each, and entry is limited to small numbers per day.
The advantage of guided cultural tours of Egypt is that arrangements for access can be made in advance. Whereas many travellers per day will miss out on seeing the inside of a pyramid, our tours included entry as part of your travel itinerary.
