  • Uzbekistan is a beautiful country. A former Soviet state, it has lovely mosques and mausoleums and links to the Silk Road, an ancient trade route.

The best times to visit Uzbekistan for a tour are in the Spring and Autumn months, April to May, and September to early November.

The weather at these times is usually mild and dry, reaching the mid 20’s regularly.

If you don’t mind cold weather, then dress warmly for the months of November through to March. It can drop as low as 4 degrees, sometimes colder. However, clear night skies and crisp cold air can deliver spectacular backdrops to your photos.

  • Uzbekistan is surprisingly inexpensive to travel to. It is becoming more popular as a destination to visit thanks to some ancient Silk Road destinations, but it is still good value as a destination.

It is a smart idea to carry some cash on you, there are only a few ATMS and there are minimal venues that have credit card facilities. We also advise bringing some US currency as a backup.

Trains are a cheap form of travel, and the hostels and guesthouses are also very affordable for some good accommodation. Boutique Tours and Travel offers very good 4 star and occasionally 3 star accommodation.

  • There has been a boom in tourism for Uzbekistan. The Government is keen to encourage this growth industry and is doing a lot to ensure visitors are safe and protected.

Touring in the cities is pretty easy, and if you’re looking to go to remote places, such as Khiva, or if you’re interested in a silk road tour, you should do this in a tour group.

Crime is low in Uzbekistan, but this is more due to the fact it is a totalitarian police state.

As with anywhere, you should be on alert. There are tourist scams, pickpockets, muggings, and so on. It can happen, so do be careful and alert when you travel.

Also, be aware that homosexuality is illegal under Uzbek law. There are no anti-discrimination laws in place either, so if you are LGBTQI+, be mindful of this.

  • You can enter Uzbekistan once and stay for up to 30 days without a visa.

If you plan to stay longer than 30 days, or if you need multiple entries, you will need a visa.

Make sure you check your visa details when you get it. What you applied for may not be what you receive.

You need to check visa requirements if you choose to visit neighboring countries, of course.
